The Oldest Zoo in the World

Imagine a small playful half-dog half-pig thing. That's my new favorite animal. It is called a bush dog and I found it at the zoo. Not the Madagascar zoo. A zoo in Paris. The oldest zoo in the world in fact. My wife and I are in Paris, France for 6 weeks while she works. We actually live next to the zoo and several science museums. How perfect is that? I will tell you all about Paris and show you around the really cool science sites here, but first the zoo. It's always good to start with furry animals. (By the way, the first furry animal you see is a bush dog...an adorable little bush dog.)

Are you singing this song? I like the turtles.
Mailys, 1st

Were you singing in the song? Was the baby leopard a girl or a boy? I like the jaguar.

Do you know why the flamingo is pink? Because the food it eats has chemicals that make it pink. I liked the leopards the most.

Mailys,

I wish I was singing that song. The singers are the "Fight of the Conchords" and they are one of my favorite groups. I love the turtles too. The first turtles in the movie are quite special. Even though they are in the zoo here in France, they are actually from Madagascar. They are on about the size of a rabbit, but that is not the special part. Here's the special part...they are the oldest living animals on Earth. One of them is known to have lived to be 188 years old. Now that's a lot of birthday candles!

Vendela,

I actually don't know if it was a boy or girl. I will most certainly go back, so I will check when I do.

Cecile,

C'est bon! Flamingos do turn pink because of all the beta-carotene they eat. Carrots are full of beta-carotene, so think what could happen if you ate a few kilos of carrots every day?

Josephine,

I have seen la tour eiffel. It is quite beautiful at night. The twinkling every hour seems a bit much, but the rest of the night the lights are wonderful.

Could you show us more pictures of Paris? How did you get to film it? When are you coming back?

Parker, 1st Mrs. K

How did the music get on the movie? Were there any glass frogs at the zoo? Were there any sand storms in Madagascar? I miss your teaching.

Dear Neven,

Here we go:

le léopard = leopard
la tortue = tortoise
le flamant rose = flamingo
le cochon = pig
le sanglier = peccary

I saw al the animals at the zoo.
And, yes, I do like Paris very much. I especially love all the great food and coffee.

Dear Parker, 1st,

Thank you. I will show you more pictures of Paris. It is a beautiful city. Sadly, I won't be coming back for a while. I will be away for a few years, but I will be coming back to visit around Thanksgiving time next year when you are in second grade. I miss you. Take care.

Dear Alex, 1st,

Nope. There were no glass frogs at the zoo. But you are such a smart scientist to even know about glass frogs. I'm proud of you. No sand storms in Madagascar. I was once in a sand storm in Colorado though and it was awesome. Keep learning and I'll keep my out for glass frogs.

hello- cool video, but the song made no sese because it was talking about the grocery store, different foods, and the pool- :P

Kathy,

It's really supposed to be a silly song about someone who thinks he can speak French but really can't. The only thing he can really say are things about shopping and hello. It's goofy, but I like the way it sounds.
